WHO WE ARE

EcoPoca is an arts collective of multi-ethnic Asian Pacific Islander artists. Their mission is to create a platform to collectively remember and celebrate ancestral eco-wisdom/connection to nature, while envisioning a future society where nature and urban life coexist in harmony.

THE EVENT: ECOPOCALYPSE aka ECOPOCA

EcoPoca is a visual art, eco-fashion, and performance art exhibit that addresses environmental issues, including the ongoing Fukushima nuclear disaster, while remembering and sharing our ancestors' wisdom and connection to nature. We will be creating a “Ku-kan,” a space to experience the “in-between” - an intersection of two alternate realities possible, one of a nuclear apocalypse and one of an advanced society where nature and urban life coexist in harmony.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to create a platform for us to collectively remember and celebrate our ancestral wisdom. We live in an era where whole communities are being displaced due to climate change and natural disasters. Our ancestors knew how to coexist peacefully with nature, and reflecting on their knowledge and wisdom can help us co-create a new reality. Art, Story-telling, and folklore are powerful tools to reflect on the turmoil our planet is experiencing, and to help us envision our collective eco-future as we gather to share. We hope to use this event to catapult revolutionary ideas for eco-collaboration. Our diversity here in the Bay Area creates a microcosm of the world, which is why we believe that our work here as a collective is necessary and impactful internationally.
